Project Monitor - Effort Tracking
Project Monitor – Effort Tracking allows you to track effort estimated, spent and remaining to complete the project.
It allows you to keep monitored the Effort through the following information:
- work progress (completed task over task in progress)
- estimated effort (related to work progress)
- actual effort (related to work progress)
Show all your project summaries
Using this gadget you can view summaries of all of your projects at the same time and on the same page, both in standard and in wallable mode. Each summary shows Estimated and Actual times, with markers evidencing the status of the project.
Show delta between Estimated and Actual
For each selected project, the gadget shows the delta between Estimated Time Total and Actual Time Total ( Projected Time Total ) in a coloured circle. It is green when the delta is positive, red when negative.
Show Spent and Remaining time in different colours
For both, Estimated and Actual timelines, the gadget displays Spent and Remaining time bars in different colours (respectively light-grey/dark-grey and green/red), to make it easy for you to understand the project status at a glance.
Installation & License
Installing Project Monitor: As an Administrator, click on Administration Tools > Add-ons. Search the Marketplace for Project Monitor and click the Install button. Project Monitor will be installed from the Marketplace. (Note: Project Monitor will work properly only if you set the correct Base URL of your JIRA instance.)
Adding Project Monitor to your Dashboard: On your Dashboard just click on
button and the “Add a Gadget” screen will appear. Make sure that all the gadgets are displayed, by clicking on “Load all gadgets”. When the gadget list is updated, search for Project Monitor and choose one or both gadgets:- Project Monitor- Effort Tracking
- Project Monitor- Delivery Tracking
Then click on “Add Gadget”. A new Project monitor gadget will be added to your Dashboard.
License: The license of Project Monitor is sold through Atlassian Marketplace.
Configure Project Monitor- Effort Tracking
After adding a Project Monitor gadget to your Dashboard, a configuration screen allowing you to configure the plugin will appear directly on the Dashboard in the gadget itself. The configuration parameters differ based on the JIRA Agile (Boards) being installed in JIRA or not.
Configure Project Monitor- Effort Tracking in JIRA Server without JIRA Agile:
In this case the configuration panel allows you to customize the gadget with the following parameters:
- Use remaining estimate: if selected, the plugin will use the Remaining Estimate (the remaining amount of time currently anticipated to resolve the issues) to determine the value of “ Estimated Time Remaining”. Further information in the section: “Use Remaining Estimate” Checkbox;
- Project: allows you to specify the project you would like to monitor;
- Version: allows you to specify the version tracked in the selected versioned JIRA project;
- Refresh Interval: you can specify how often you would like the gadget to update.

Configure Project Monitor in JIRA Server with JIRA Agile:
In this case the configuration panel allows you to select if you want to monitor a Project or a Sprint. If you select a project, follow the configuration guide for JIRA Server without JIRA Agile. When Sprint is selected, you can customize the gadget with the following parameters:
- Use remaining estimate: if selected, the plugin will use the Remaining Estimate (the remaining amount of time currently anticipated to resolve the issues) to determine the value of “ Estimated Time Remaining”. Further information in the section: “Use Remaining Estimate” Checkbox;
- Board: allows you to specify the Agile Board you would like to monitor;
- Sprint Selection: allows you to specify the Sprint (belonging to the JIRA Agile Board) that you want to track in the gadget;
- Refresh Interval: you can specify how often you would like the gadget to update.
“Use Remaining Estimate” Checkbox
The “Use Remaining Estimate” checkbox in Project Monitor configuration panel, allows you to modify the way Project Monitor-Effort Tracking obtains the “ Estimated Time Remaining” value, showed in the gadget’s dark-grey bar.
- If selected, the gadget will sum the JIRA Remaining Estimate values, specified for each open issue within the project / board, to determine the value of “ Estimated Time Remaining”
- If not selected, the gadget will sum the differences between the JIRA Original Estimate and the Actual Time Spent (Logged time) for each open issue within the project / board (Note: negative values of these differences are considered to be zero).
The selection of “Use Remaining Estimate” checkbox will affect the values of Estimated Time Spent, Estimated Time Remaining and the Projected Time Remaining.
(Note: Project Monitor considers the issues to be opened or closed based on their workflow status category.)

Estimated Time Remaining | The value of the Estimated Time Remaining in open issues may be different according to the user selection of “Use Remaining Estimate” checkbox in the gadget’s control panel. Further information in the section: “Use Remaining Estimate” Checkbox. For closed issues, Estimated Time Remaining is always considered to be zero. |
Actual Time Spent | The value of Actual Time Spent is obtained by adding all the Time Spent (Logged), for both open and closed issues. |
Projected Time Remaining | The Projected Time Remaining is an estimate of the residual time left until the end of the project, based on the values of Estimated Time Spent , Estimated Time Remaining and Actual Time Spent. |
Estimated Time Total | The Estimated Time Total is the sum of Estimated Time Spent and Estimated Time Remaining. |
Projected Time Total | The Projected Time Total is the sum of Actual Time Spent and Projected Time Total. |
Delta | Delta is the difference between Estimated Time Total and Projected Time Total. The gadget shows the Delta between Estimated Time Total andProjected Time Total in a coloured circle. It is green when the delta is positive, red when negative. |
